Choosing your cake

Clients are in charge of bringing their own cake. White cake and creamy icing works best and it's a good idea to let it sit out before coming, so it’s nice and smash-able! For purchasing a cake, Tipton Treats (316-619-3418) is very talented, or if you need something last minute, Dillons does little cakes that work great as well.

Their outfit

You will need at least two outfits: one for portraits and one for the cake smash. Tutus, diaper covers or just jeans work great for the cake smash outfit. For more ideas on what to put them in, check out our Pinterest page. If you are needing a personalized tutu, contact Ashley Cullinane a call at 316-312-6082.

Location

You can choose to do your session in studio or on location. Both work great. Studio provides a more controlled environment, several props, and choice of pattern or solid backdrop; outdoors provides more scenic opportunities, a few props, natural light, and less clean up. Completely up to you!

Decor/theme

I have lots of backdrops, props, banners and cake stands even that you are free to use, but don't hesitate to bring your own props or balloons!

Be prepared for the mess!

Have a clean up plan ready. They can get VERY messy (and you might too). List of things to bring include:

1. Wipes or wet rags
2. Trash bag for dirty clothes
3.  A change of clothes for baby to go home in (footy pajamas work well to keep it contained)
4. A change of clothes for yourself

Know that kids respond differently

Not all kids will dive right in to the cake and smash it the way you might have pictured. But that is okay! Kids looking at the cake funny, poking it and even crying are just as cute. We encourage you to embrace whatever your child may do at the session.
